Try This Healthy Habit When Working From Home

If it wasn’t fully engrained yet, the past two and a half years have taught us that sitting for long periods of time is terrible for our health.

Working remotely caused many of us to alter the way our days were structured—there was no more walking to meetings or taking breaks during lunch to get some exercise in; Zoom and other platforms ensured that we were tied to our desks, and suddenly meetings stacked up on top of each other.

Now, you may be getting back to your workplace a few times a week, but this doesn’t inspire much more activity than working remotely.  If you are still looking for something to do to get your behind out of your chair, we’ve got an idea. And you can scale this idea to include a group of people or even teams for a friendly workplace competition.

Walking!

It’s a great way to get moving regularly and not work up too much of a sweat in between obligations.

You can start by looking on the Internet for a popular, well-known route.

Here in Campbell, California, examples of popular walking routes are the Ring of Kerry (111 miles), the Appian Way (132 miles) ….even the Pacific Crest Trail (a whopping 2650 miles).

Healthy Habit When Working From Home

Your goal is to walk at least one or more miles a day and to record your progress; you can either do this by simple subtraction, or by plotting it on a map you can print out from the internet.

It would be motivating to get a group of people together and chart everyone’s mileage toward the completion of a route, or even form teams for a little bit of friendly competition.

Either way, get out there and get moving regularly again—your body and your mind will thank you!
