All trainers have their own circumstances that brought them to this calling. For me it wasn’t because I was a great athlete or a born-to-it fitness fanatic—far from it. I very nearly destroyed myself before I decided to take my life back and truly live.
You see, for a number of years alcohol and drugs ruled my life. At the end of this downward spiral I weighed a mere 130 pounds (at 6’2”). Fortunately, when I was 30, a wonderful doctor pushed me hard to clean up and started me on weight training. Doing nothing half-heartedly, I threw myself into bodybuilding and, at my peak, weighed in at 230 muscular pounds...I was me times two!
By then I was in my 40’s and though not a competitive bodybuilder, I was working hard to maintain musculature that wasn’t serving me well. My joints ached, and my body was pushed to its limits, in spite of being drug-free for years. It was time to reset my priorities, goals, and energies. Iyengar Yoga and Pilates were part of the answer to finding the right combination of strength, flexibility, stamina and stability. I started sharing my methods with family and friends, then hired by their families and friends. Before I realized it, I was on my path as a personal trainer.
Why “Left Coast”? As a transplanted New Yorker, I wanted to distinguish my former “no pain, no gain” heavy-duty iron-lugging approach, from the holistic, integrated and decidedly more healthful methods I have embraced since moving to the “Left Coast”.
At Left Coast Fitness, I specialize in designing and adapting fitness programs to be accessible and enjoyable for all levels of experience with minimal equipment and exercise time.
Over 11 years of personal training, 10 years of bodybuilding, 6 years of Iyengar Yoga and Pilates, 4 years of Latin, Swing, and ballroom dancing, 3 years of martial arts (Tae Kwon Do, Kick Boxing and Tai Chi), plus training in boxing and Nia provide a broad knowledge base for me to draw upon.
I create personalized in-home/in-office fitness programs tailored to your specific needs and interests.
By continually tracking and reviewing your progress, we can ensure that as your body changes, so does your program. Have you ever seen someone who’s used the same routine for ages and never seems to reach his goals? There’s a good reason for that! At Left Coast Fitness we assess, adapt, refine and succeed.
My clients are men and women ranging in age from early 20s to...well, let’s just say “significantly more senior”. They’re soccer players and swimmers, folks recuperating from surgeries and preparing for races; they’re just starting to really address their well-being or they’re dedicated athletes. But they all share one characteristic—the knowledge that their well-being is worth working for.
And I make that “work” as much fun as I can!
I continually add new methods, new approaches, new certifications. I will never stop learning, adapting, growing, or sharing, and I hope the same for you!
Be Well.
